Dynamic sculptures are works of art which mix beauty with physical motion so that the end result is visually stunning. What makes these works special is that the creator needs to have a deep knowledge and skill of multiple disciplines eg.painting and physics, sculpture and electronics. Obviously there are not many such people but the few who exist have astonished the world with the beauty and complexity of their creations.
Insecta Lamps of Choe U-ram
Choe U-ram from Seoul, Korea did his Masters in Fine Arts and specialises in using metal and acrylic components fused with computers, robotics and motors to create kinetic models representing natural objects like insects, flowers and plants.
The end result is an automated model which mimics movements and organisms found in nature. He always had an interest in machines and mechanics and later he studied sculpture and he fused the two diverse fields together to create his models. All his works start with sketches and designs and then he works with an electrical engineer and a production manager to convert into a live working model.
The Insecta lamps are two his most striking creations. There is a Silver Insecta Lamp and a Gold Insecta Lamp. The lamps are a representation of a mythical insect, made out of metal, motors, CPU boards, LED displays, resin and magnets. The insects are also among the smallest of his creations in terms of size as his other creations are quite large.
